FaceBook And Linking Or "Liking"

FaceBook And Linking Or "Liking"

FaceBook is now facing new challenges as they grow. Yes, FaceBook does offer an opportunity to get your content and products out to many people (If your website is fitted for it). However, they (FaceBook) may be suffering some of the same growing pains that Google faced with link farms and link buying.

Supposedly "liking" is taking the place of linking. What is "liking". Liking is when a user "likes" a piece of content, they will hit the like button and it will show up in their friends' news feeds. If the individual has a lot of "friends" and if the quality of the "friends" in the eyes of Facebook are appropriate, this can add more value on those "likes".

Now, here come the sticky part. Those same factors, number of friends + quality of the friends can also cause a headache for Facebook in the search results. Some of these "like" campaigns are coming from "Like farms" which are similar to link farms. It's also been stated that some people are buying into these "like farms". These "like farms" are spamming Facebook with random quotes and phrases. The solution-Facebook will have to develop a system to determine what add values and what does not.

To conclude, as FaceBook becomes a stronger vehicle to marketing, they will have to take a serious look at "like farms" and "Like Buying" to add quality in their search.
