What and Why of Cloud Computing?

What and Why of Cloud Computing?

I don't know about you, but I've been seeing some affiliate programs claiming that they utilize cloud computing. That's fine and dandy, but what the heck is it. Obviously, it has to be affecting me in some way. However, since I'm online a lot, I began to wonder if I was using "cloud computing" without even knowing it. Surprisingly enough, I have used it and not even known it.

Check my article "Cloud Computing-What is It?" out on my site. You're learn what cloud computing is and why cloud computing may begin to be utilized more by consumers and enterprise. Yes, this is fairly new technology, but it utilizes a lot of the old technology we know, which means, people are only beginning to use their imagination and ingenuity to what they can and will do with this technology.

Affiliate Marketing and Google?

Affiliate Marketing and Google?

Affiliate Marketing and Google? I thought I would begin with a question, when it comes to affiliate marketing and Google. And yes, Google is now moving into Affiliate Marketing.

Their affiliate site is called "Google Affiliate Network". Since I am an affiliate marketer, I could not resist the temptation to see what Google has to offer, so I signed up.

The Google Affiliate Network is relatively new, thus, they are still growing. The site, like the other affiliate brokerage firms, offer different categories- from apparels to wine spirits. However, I've noticed that they offer something slightly different from the other affiliate brokerage firms. The company profile?

The company profile can be seen only when you click on the advertiser link that you would like to sell for or you're interested in. By clicking on their link, you get an immediate view  the company's profile. Which, I find very interesting. Why? Because they offer the following breakout of the company: Traffic Statistics by Country, Gender, Education, Age, Household Income, Audience Interests, and Sites Visited by their visitors. Why is this important? It helps you to match your site to the advertisers.

The other links include Advertiser information, Commission and Guidelines. Within the advertiser information, you'll find a synopsis of what the Advertiser is all about, including commissions and guidelines for the program. (You can then go into the other tabs, Commissions and Advertisers Terms to get a complete picture of the company's offer and restrictions.) I would definitely look at the Advertisers Terms, because that will give you the does and don'ts of their program. If the company rules are not followed, they can deactivate you and pull back your commissions.

To conclude, for those in affiliate marketing, this is yet, another opportunity to look at for affiliate programs.

FaceBook And Linking Or "Liking"

FaceBook And Linking Or "Liking"

FaceBook is now facing new challenges as they grow. Yes, FaceBook does offer an opportunity to get your content and products out to many people (If your website is fitted for it). However, they (FaceBook) may be suffering some of the same growing pains that Google faced with link farms and link buying.

Supposedly "liking" is taking the place of linking. What is "liking". Liking is when a user "likes" a piece of content, they will hit the like button and it will show up in their friends' news feeds. If the individual has a lot of "friends" and if the quality of the "friends" in the eyes of Facebook are appropriate, this can add more value on those "likes".

Now, here come the sticky part. Those same factors, number of friends + quality of the friends can also cause a headache for Facebook in the search results. Some of these "like" campaigns are coming from "Like farms" which are similar to link farms. It's also been stated that some people are buying into these "like farms". These "like farms" are spamming Facebook with random quotes and phrases. The solution-Facebook will have to develop a system to determine what add values and what does not.

To conclude, as FaceBook becomes a stronger vehicle to marketing, they will have to take a serious look at "like farms" and "Like Buying" to add quality in their search.

Link Exchanges An Element of the Old Internet?

Link Exchanges An Element of the Old Internet?

A link exchange is when one site offers to link to your site if you link to their site. (What I have found is the exchange is usually not of equal importance.)

Many feel that this type of linking request come from newbies that send out generic e-mails requesting exchanges. Possibly, but not always. There are also linking companies that request that you exchange a link with one of their clients, in return, you get a link to, usually another client. Sound professional? I think not.

Why do people go after link exchanges? Many people go after link exchanges because they are trying to find a fast and easy way to drive traffic to their website or blog.

With that being said...not knowing who you are linking to can invariably hurt your online reputation. How? If a loyal reader is taking the time to read your content they have developed a measure of trust in what you say. If, a reader clicks on a link on your site or blog and finds a site full of ads, or the content that doesn't even meet your own content standards - you may end up devaluing your site as well as the other sites that are linking to you.

And, Google, yes Google, hates linking schemes. Google's business model is centered around providing people with quality search, and thus, quality content. If they find that you have participated in any linking schemes, such as excessive link exchanges, expect your site to go down in ranking.

In my view, link exchanges is becoming an element of the "old Internet". The new Internet includes more business rules put in place by search engines, Google and the FTC. Which, I might say, brings an element of legitimacy to the Internet. My view, the one sure way to get a back link is through your own content. If the content is good, someone will link to you to share the information. Granted, it's not the fastest way to get noticed, but it does preserve your online reputation.

And Social Media, makes the likes of Facebook and Twitter extremely relevant to today's marketers and readers. And Google,  is not blind to this fact. That is why Google launched "Caffeine" a web indexing system that crawls blogs, social media sites, commercial sites and user generated content at a faster rate (I believe it to be around 50% faster). What does this mean? It means, fresh content that is readily available for readers.

All this translates into a new way of thinking. What's will increase your readership- networking, social media vehicles that produces fresh content, and most importantly quality content. The other-link exchanges can have one major disadvantage-a site filled with spam-filled links and less than quality content. So, which way do you want to go? I say, in with the new, and out with the old.
