The Google Sandbox - Really?

The Google Sandbox-Really?

Google has said that they do not place new websites in what everyone calls the "Google Sandbox". However, they did admit that possibly their algorithm may at first penalize a new website, until they prove their value to the Internet community.

So, if you're building a new website, expect Google's algorithm to filter your new site into the expected Google Sandbox.

Here are some of the possible reasons for new sites to be placed in the "Sandbox".

1. Restricts people from creating multiple websites that link to one another.
2. Helps Google to determine the website value within the Internet Community

How long should you expect to be in the Sandbox.

Time in the Google Sandbox
How long do you expect to be in the Sandbox? It usually takes around 6 months before you see any movement. Is there a way to avoid this 6 month stall? No. So the best thing that you can do is to be patient. That doesn't mean you should sit idle, you can work your website.

Working your Website
Since you are in the Google Sandbox for the first six months of your website life, make the most of it. There are some things you can do to keep yourself busy.

First, since you site is new, it can give you time to look over your site, tweak any problems it may have and make improvements. What problems? Do you have a site map, do your links flow easily from one page to the other, are your landing pages properly optimized, etc.

Second, work on your content. When anyone uses the Internet their sole goal is to find information. So, if you have time on your hands, work at creating keyword rich, content. It's not as easy as you think. Why? First, the content needs to be informative, readable, then keyword rich. As you can see, writing on the Internet is not the same as writing a term paper for college. The key difference is "keywords".

Third, to develop trust, you should choose wisely the websites you link to your website. Why? Trusted, relevant, authoritative websites (that Google deems trustworthy, as well as your users) can help improve your page ranking, and it may help your website get out of the Sandbox earlier.

Fourth, don't be in too big of a hurry, that you make mistakes. Sure, you'll make mistakes. But the mistakes that can penalize your website can be easily avoided. For instance:

1. Do not partake in linking farms
2. Do not start out with highly competitive keywords-you can't compete with the big boys.
3. Utilize some long-tail keywords

When you have a new website online, all are anxious to see results. But, if you follow the rules, write quality content, your website will grow in relevance, authority and trust. In the end, the keyword to building a new website is patience.
